Fifteen kilometres of coastline, bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, beautiful golden sand beaches, quiet pebble coves, cliffs with stunning views, clear blue waters ... Villajoyosa is a charming place, off the beaten track, a perfect place to spend a quiet holiday as a couple or as a family.
Villajoyosa is a seaside town with typical houses painted in bright colours and a history that dates back to the Bronze Age. Over the centuries, history has left its legacy in 'La Vila': ancestral vestiges, Egyptian relics, Phoenician jewellery, a Roman funeral tower, and ancient coastal watchtowers.
The bloody battles against the Berber pirates in 1538 are the origin of the patron saint festivals of Moors and Christians, celebrated from 24 to 31 July every year. It is an internationally renowned event not to be missed, notable for its spectacular parades and a sea battle at dawn, a unique spectacle in the world.
The magnificent central beach of Villajoyosa is very picturesque … beautiful golden sand dotted with clusters of tropical palm trees, the traditional houses painted in bright colours serving as a backdrop. It looks like the Caribbean! The pleasant promenade is flat, flanked by restaurants and cafes for all tastes.
The Vila has a tradition of chocolate making dating back to 1810. The well-known El Valor chocolate shop is one example. They sell delicious chocolates and artisanal pralines, as well as serving the typical chocolate with churros, refreshing chocolate milkshakes, ice creams and granitas.
