Valencia

A place of contrasts with a charming historic centre and futuristic buildings. As well as soaking up culture in one of the many museums, or taking a stroll through the bustling streets, you can also take a refreshing dip in the Mediterranean Sea or enjoy the sun on the long sandy beaches. This is Valencia, one of the most hospitable cities in Spain to spend a few days.

Any time is a good time to travel to Valencia, but if there is a special time it is March 19, when they celebrate their famous Fallas with giant cardboard sculptures that are set on fire.

Valencia is also perfect for exploring on foot or renting a bike. One of the most fascinating spots is the Plaza de la Reina, with the cathedral and the Torre del Miguelete, where it is worth climbing the 207 steps to have a beautiful view of the city.

In the centre you will also find the Lonja de la Seda (one of the most beautiful buildings in Valencia, declared a World Heritage Site) and the Mercat Central (the largest fresh produce market in Europe). Just a few metres away you will also find the Museo Nacional de Cerámica with its impressive façade or the Torres de Quart and Serrano. There are also museums such as the IVAM or countless corners that surprise with their street art.

A little further from the centre is the modern face of Valencia, specifically the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, with the Oceanogràfic, the largest aquarium in Europe. From here begins the Jardín del Turia, an urban park of 160 hectares and approximately 10 kilometres in length, which leads to the new Bioparc Valencia, which replaced the old zoo. You can rent a bicycle in many places, ideal for exploring this park.

Of course, it is essential to try their signature dish, paella (the authentic one!) and other delicacies such as clóchinas (mussels) or horchata (tigernut). This is best enjoyed in one of the many restaurants on the beach. Malvarrosa beach is one of the best-known options.

The day can end with a sunset at the nearby Albufera Natural Park, a navigable lake known as the 'Mirror of the Sun', where you can experience one of the best sunsets in the Mediterranean. Or you can stay in the city and enjoy the vibrant nightlife of the Carmen neighbourhood or new trendy neighbourhoods for food lovers such as Ruzafa.
